John and Team Sahlen Win the Pole and Place 2nd at New Jersey !

John earned his first career Rolex Series pole, turning in a time of 1:24.673 (95.662 mph) in the No. 42 Team Sahlen Mazda RX-8. It marks the second pole in three races for the No. 42.  John's co-driver Wayne Nonnamaker won the pole last month at Road America.  John said, "The progress Team Sahlen has made is a multitude of things that have come together all at the right time.  We're shooting for more podiums and hopefully a win or two later this year."

Unfortunately, for New Jersey the win avoided Team Sahlen and went to Speed Source.   Mazda scored a podium sweep led by Sylvain Tremblay and Jonathan Bomarito  in the No. 70 Mazdaspeed/Castrol Edge Mazda RX-8.  Bomarito took the checkered flag .685 seconds ahead of John and Team Sahlen in second.  Both John and Wayne drove superb races, running in first or second for nearly the entire race.

In summary John said, "We led a lot of the race and ended up second, just like last year, behind Jonathan. I was pushing really hard to do anything I could to get by him, but he defended really well. He was clean but definitely defended very aggressively, just the same way I did to him at Road America. We couldn't get by, but in the end, we came away with a second-place finish. On a day like today when you're just pushing yourself to the max, it really does make it all worth it to actually get a trophy and come away with some good points."
