John and Stevenson Motorsports Struggle at VIR

The Stevenson Motorsports Team and the other Camaro entries in the series did not unfortunately have quite as much speed on tap as did the competition and that meant they were not about to lead this last race at VIR.  After starting in 7th place,Matt  Bell and John managed to come home in the top 10, the second highest finishing Camaro in the GS field.

Team Manager Mike Johnson: “While we were running near track record lap times, the rest of the GS cars were almost 2 seconds faster.  There is not much to say about this one other than the crew and drivers did a great job, but we were just not fast enough.  The best news from the weekend is that Grand-Am and the other Camaro teams are really starting to understand our deficiencies and we hope to have a big update by Road America.  With the big 6.2 liter v-8, we really struggle with traction and we can't get the rear wheels to stop spinning when we try to put the power down.  Hopefully a pending update will address that.”

John commented: “This weekend was not our best. After a strong fight through the field for a top five at the last race at Barber, we were looking for our first podium of the year at VIR, but ended up fighting hard just to stay in the top 10. The crew did an awesome job as usual in the pits to make up positions, and our strategy put us in a good spot, but we did not have the outright pace to run with the leaders. However, I had a tough race at VIR last year and bounced back to a win at Lime Rock the following race, so hopefully we can repeat that turnaround in a couple of weeks as we head to Connecticut!
