Intense Opening ALMS Weekend for Edwards at Sebring 12 Hour

Sebring, Florida. In the 61st Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring fueled by Fresh from Florida, John Edwards joined the impressive lineup of co drivers Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the American Le Mans Series. This marked the first race not only of the season, but the first race event for the team's new BMW Z4 in the GT class.

Dirk Mueller started the 12 Hour endurance race in ninth in the number 56 GT car, and methodically worked his way up through the field. At the three hour mark, second driver Joey Hand continued the charge and brought the car up to first place in the GT class before pitting in fourth for the next driver in the rotation, John Edwards. Edwards rejoined the field in fourth and kept the car in the top five for the rest of his stint. Racing side by side with ALMS veterans, Edwards raced clean and hard during his double stint before passing the wheel to Dirk Mueller. Shortly before the eight hour mark, the team's troubles began. Mueller pulled into the pits with a broken front left strut and repairs in pit lane forced the team to rejoin several laps down. Although thirteen laps down from the leaders, the No. 56 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team finished the grueling endurance event, an impressive feat for a new car. The Z4 ran well and strong for the entirety of the race, and combined with the impressive driver line up and team history, the team will be sure to be championship contenders in the 2013 ALMS season.
